Perle 12 Cotton - by the Skein

When I discovered and stitched with this Perle 12 at a class last summer I thought I was stitching with silk. Upon further inquiry I found out it was cotton. OMG – it’s amazing! From the luscious feel to the amazing hand dyed colors, I knew right then I needed to spread the word about this amazing thread.

This is a hi-sheen mercerized 100% cotton twisted thread that cannot be split. Perlé is highly suitable for any number of popular embroidery techniques, including cross-stitch, needlepoint, dimensional embroidery, and other types of creative thread work such as Folk-Art styles and tapestry work. This high-quality embroidery thread is versatile enough to be used for crochet and knitting projects and is also effectively used in Crazy Quilting. Perlé embroidery thread can be used very successfully in jewelry design, decorative tassel work and in decorative applique patchwork.

Dye-lot differences should be of no great consequence when stitching with variegated threads, as the overall effect is created by the interaction of different tones in color. In pieces where color consistency is crucial, please be advised at the outset to purchase enough thread from a single dye batch to finish your piece.

I also love the manufacturers’ story. House of Embroidery is a South African-born dye house established in 1995 which produces multi-colored hand-dyed embroidery thread and ribbon. As a fair-trade company, House of Embroidery prides itself on the sustained empowerment of previously unskilled South Africans. Most of the team are women, many of whom had no prior employment. The majority are currently the main breadwinners in their respective families.
