Handmade One-Of-a-Kind Thatched Basket #1

Wow, is this basket amazing or what?! I love hand crafted specialty items - this is on the top of my list of favorites. This basket was hand made by Annelee in Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands. The process is very specific to the region as the sole raw material is thatch from a thatch palm tree. The thatch is dried, split, and then woven into long 1"=2" wide strips. The strips are then formed into a shape of the artists choosing and then sewn together. The result is this absolutely beautiful one-of-a-kind creation.

This would make a great bag for carrying projects, going to the beach, displaying things like towels in the bathroom, or simply hanging in an entry area to admire it's beauty. I could also see stitching a finished piece on the side of the basket to add even more of a wow factor. This is a sturdy basket and can handle quite a load - so no need to be dainty with it.

Size of this basket is ~14" long x 6" wide opening, and height of main section of basket is 9".
